Nature WebCam Comments
I’ve set up this page so that you can leave a comment about the Urban Extension WebCam found at this link.

Tell me what you think and don’t be afraid to ask questions – I will always answer you (if I can!)
Do you enjoy the WebCam? Do you like the archive videos that I play? How about the “live FoxCam” in the evening?
If you get the chance, take a tour round the rest of my Wildlife Diary by clicking on the “Urban Extension” title at the top of this page. There are lots and lots of wildlife videos, photos and adventures in Dorset and beyond.
I look forward to your comments!
Jane (Nuthatch)

I’ve been visiting your WebCam every night for the last week. I really look forward to watching the foxes “live” in the evening. Thanks for setting this up!
hi
i wish have you nice time
bye
I visited the WebCam last night. I thought it was great. How long have you had the foxes in your garden?
Thanks for visiting the WebCam Saeed.
Jane
Thanks Carol. Really glad you liked the webcam. I will try and move it around the garden, so that you can see different things. Hopefully the cubs will be around in May. Jane
Wow WildFox – everynight! Thanks for visiting the WebCam. It’s quite new to me, but I’m really enjoying the feedback from people all over the world. There is something special about watching wildlife live. Jane
hello from Down Under! Love your page and especially your cam – what a treat to see the fox! Very well done – will check back often!
From An Anglophile in Oz
Wow Australia! I don’t think I’ve had anyone else from Australia visit my WebCam. How amazing that you are on the other side of the world watching foxes in my Dorset garden. Mind boggling! I try to have the LIVE camera switched on to watch the foxes from 7-11pm UK time. At other times I run archive footage of the foxes (or other wildlife in the area). Look forward to seeing you again at the WebCam. Jane
This has been very successful here. I love the fox videos, as I don’t always have spare time in the evening. My son watches as often as he can, and he’s delighted!
Many thanks for all this.
Hi Dragonstar. I’m really thrilled that you and your son have been watching. When I sit at home with just a computer in front of me, I sometimes wonder if people are really interested in the wildlife in my little garden.
However, after reading all the great comments above, from all over the world, I’m gradually realising that people really do enjoy watching and reading about wildlife as much as I do.
It warms my heart! Thanks so much. Jane
Great video of the fox on the trampoline, kept my 3 years old grandaughter amused for ages, and me
Being a near neighbour (Hampshire) we also have foxes but none quite so entertaining, Thanks Jane.
Surfing the net & I came across your webcam site & Im in Dorset as well, how spooky is that !
I love the fox on the trampoline, excellent video, but what is the huge “bubble-wrap bubble” thingy in your garden ?
anyway great site added to my favourites, im looking forward to seeing a fox at night on your webcam.
all the best.
Just found your site. Really enjoy it! What is the fox eating? Do you feed them? Love watching all animals. Thank you for putting this site on.
I Live In Corfe Mullen!!!! I Really Enjoyed This!!!!
Carol. Yes, it is a great video. Not taken by me sadly (wish it had been) Really glad you had a laugh with your grandaughter! Starting her off on nature watching early, that’s what I like to see. Jane
Richard. As I said above, I can’t take the credit for the fox on trampoline video. Sadly! The foxes are around tonight, but I’m taping them… so not on webcam live. The female is still very pregnant. Fit to burst. Glad I have another Dorset person on board! Thanks for stopping by. Jane
Missi. The fox is eating sultanas and nuts (usually) sometimes give it some pet vitamins inside a honey sandwich (their favourite). Thanks for visiting. Jane
Dee. Another Corfe Mullen’er…. great news! Welcome to the site. Glad you enjoyed it. Jane
March 17/08: From Ontario: Nice cam….just was watching a fox eating… cool.
Just posted a link on my blog – hope that’s ok. I love the fox on the trampoline!
Anon from Ontario. Great news. Glad you liked the camera. Hope you visit again. Jane

I live in North Wales and I visit your site each day/night and am so pleased each time I see the wildlife and feel very priviledged. Thank you for all you do.
Pam. It’s really great when I get a comment like yours. It makes all the hours I spend on this worthwhile. Thanks so much for visiting. Jane
Hi Nick. Thanks so much for the link. I’ve sent you a separate email, as we had another visitor last night and it wasn’t a fox! So your link may be a little confusing to people. Again thank you! Jane
Great badgers Jane.. a lot easier if they come to your house! They certainly look like they do a good job at hoovering up all the fox’s leftovers and there were probably plenty last night!
nice footage of the badgers, do you get hedgehogs ? dont seem to see many these days. Also a technical question, what sort of webcam & set up do you use for filming ?
LIVE IN LONDON GREAT WEBCAM POP IN OFTEN GREAT CAM MATE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK KEITH
Hermione. Yes, I think I need to keep a good supply of nuts and sultanas… they seem to like them! The foxes can share the catfood an honey sandwiches! Jane
Richard. Thanks. We have had hedgehogs in the past. Unfortunately they do get eaten by badgers and foxes on occasion, so don’t tend to share their territory. We found an eaten one on the front lawn last year. Very sad, as they are such great little creatures, and so good for the garden (eating all my slugs).
The camera is a wired, colour, high-resolution (550TVL) CCTV camera (vari focus 4mm-9mm zoom), plus a separate infra red lamp. Both mounted on tripods. Also have software to caption motion, so it’s not recording all night. Jane
Keith. Great to hear you pop in regularly. I didn’t used to see many foxes and badgers when I was growing up in North London… I would have loved to watch a wildlife webcam in the country then… Jane
Hello ,My cousin lives in Corfe Mullen and told me to watch.
It was great fun,and I shall watch again.
Hilary
Love you site, my friend and I have been feeding some foxes near our local wood for some years now, I love this time of year watching the vixensready to give birth, last year we had 16 cubs in all but in October they all went off to find their own territories, It’ll be interesting to see how many we get this year, at the moment there are 4 vixens pregnant. I’d love to send you some pics but wouldn’t have a clue how to. BTW I’m Pat I post on Wildaboutbritain
Keeps me sane Jane…
Great stuff!
Doug
Hello Hilary. Thanks for watching. The foxes came at about 8.30pm last night… but usually they and the badgers come right in the middle of the night (3am), so I usually have to video them and play it back on the webcam the next day. Thank your cousin! Jane
Hi Pat. I post on wildaboutbritain quite a lot under the name “tigger”. Can’t believe how many foxes you have. I wonder where you are in the country…. I’d ask if I could come and film them if you weren’t too far away! Thanks for leaving a message. Jane
Thanks Doug. Glad I keep someone sane! Jane
great cam glad to see foxes and badgers near each other!
aron
Hi Aron. Thanks for visting. They seem to exist quiet easily together. Not mates exactly but not enemies… Jane
Hi Jane,
Wendy up near Durham here! My husband and I recently found your website and we love it! We log on nearly every night for an hour or so and so far we’ve seen your beautiful foxes and badgers every single time – oh, and you too! We saw you waving at the camera the other night, and I stupidly waved back – doh!
We live in a lovely setting here, as our house backs on to a wood – and in five years we’ve yet to see a badger, fox or even a rabbit….we do have one or two hedgehogs but that’s it. So we just wanted to say thank you for sharing your garden with us.
Hi Wendy & Joel. Thanks so much for leaving a comment. It’s great to know that you are enjoying the foxes/badgers. I didn’t realise what was in our garden at night until I got this camera. It’s like Picadilly Circus out there at night! Thanks for waving…. sorry I couldn’t see you waving back
I’m hoping a few hedgehogs will turn up in my garden this year – I had one last year. If they do, we should see them on the camera. However, they don’t get on well with foxes/badgers so it’s unlikely.
Wish my house backed onto a wood… with it’s own badger sett. Now that really would be perfect!
Thanks again for visiting… see you again soon. Jane
Absolutely fabulous site. I am so glad I found you.
Hello Pam. Thank you so much. I’m glad you found us too! Come back soon, hopefully I will have something interesting for you to see. If I don’t – let me know! Jane
Lovely site has just been watchihg the fox
Hi Margobird. Thanks for visiting the webcam. Really glad you saw one of the foxes. I’m hoping that the badger and hedgehog will come back as well while people are watching. Jane
So glad your site is proving to be popular. I do not work and spend all my time watching the birds in the garden and making sure they have plenty to eat and drink. Sadly don’t get foxes or badgers in the garden but have heard foxes at night in the small park by your bungalow. The most amazing bird I have seen several times is the sparrowhawk, both male and female, they really are beautiful birds. I have a field mouse who likes to come and dine on the ground feeder and he doesn’t mind sharing with the birds and they don’t seem to mind him. Will keep watching and hope to see the foxes again and maybe even a badger.
Margobird. Thank you for visiting. Sparrowhawks are gorgeous birds. We used to have a female visiting every day but I haven’t seen her for a while (or maybe I’ve just missed her… she is a bit speedy!). You are really lucky to see your field mouse, mine only comes out when it’s pitch dark.. very wary little thing. Must be great seeing it with all the birds and sharing their food. I hope you do keep watching, and I will try to keep you up to date with information about my garden visitors on this blog. Jane
A Lovely video, oh how I love foxes! What a great chance you had to get this wonderful shot of the very intelligent and playful animal! If you see this you need to say no to the fox hunting in England. Thank you for this film, it is lovely!
Päivi
http://lillgusten.laif.fi/
Päivi, thanks for your comments. Fox hunting has been banned in England, but unfortunately foxes are still shot to “control their numbers”. They are amazing animals. Jane
Hi, i love your cam, i live in the middle of London, so don’t really get to see much wildlife (as you can imagine!) hehe your cam is great
Thanks Paula. Really glad you like the cam. Now even you can have a little bit of Dorset wildlife in your home! Jane
Living in Corfe Mullen I see different wildlife every day as I back onto the fields off Haywards Lane. We had a young deer in the field yesterday eating the grass with magpies, crows, horses and rabbits all doing their natural thing without interuption. It will break my heart to see houses on this site and I really want it to all stay greenbelt – your website is great and I will be watching with interest each evening. Lesley
Hi Lesley. How great to hear from another “corfe mullen-er”. I totally agree with you regarding the proposed building. Have you seen my other website http://www.naturewatched.org ? It’s a new project I’ve set up to encourage residents to get involved in recording the nature in/around Corfe Mullen. If you think you can help to record wildlife (and it sounds like you see wildlife all the time) please get in contact with me or download a recording form. Lots of other people in Corfe Mullen are helping, but it’s crucial that we record the nature around the sites where they are hoping to build… so that we can try to protect what is there (before it disappears under concrete!). Thanks for visiting the webcam. Hopefully you should see the local foxes tonight on the camera. Jane
I’d love to see this but I can’t get it to work! It says connecting to media but nothing happens. I’m Furzehill, not too far away!
I’m having problems getting it to work also. Been trying the past few nights to no avail. Though I did see a lovely fox about over a week ago. Will keep trying though as it’s well worth it
By the way, I’m the one with the fox in my back garden who had a bad leg. He seems to be doing much better. I thought you would like to know. Cheers !
Hi Jo and Elaine. Sorry the webcam hasn’t been working properly. I’ve been away for a week, and now I’m back I will be setting up a nestbox cam and fox cam (for the evenings). Might take me a little bit more time, but it will appear soon! Jane
hi jane hope you had a wonderful holidy the new position looks great but there is no chat
johnboy
Hi Johnboy. Great holiday thanks. Not sure why you weren’t seeing the chat screen. Have a look again tomorrow evening, and let me know if it’s still a problem. Thanks. Jane
Your live cams are amazing! Thank you for sharing these different worlds with us–especially us cityfolk who can’t even imagine what it’s like to see such nature every day without the aid of your cams. Thank you!
Hi Silverbat. It’s so great knowing there are people watching the wildlife in my garden. It’s so easy for us to take it for granted. However I was born and brought up in London, so I know what it’s like not to see much nature on your doorstep. We are very lucky. Jane
hi jane i am still getting connection closed on the chat still getting picture though johnboy
Hi Johnboy. I really can’t explain you not being able to chat. Although we were chatting the other night, so it must be intermittent. It’s nothing I’ve done… I haven’t “banned” you! Glad you can still see the pics. Jane
hi jane i can get chat when i come onto site but if i leave it goes back to connection closed never mind as long as i can see the pics i dont mind l like the bird box cam johnboy
Watching all the way from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Love watching your nature web cam.
Hi Brenda. Glad our camera has a viewer in Canada. Thanks for coming to visit. I think it’s brilliant that you can watch my little garden in Dorset, England all the way from Nova Scotia! Jane
Hello Jane. I just wanted to say that I have been feeding urban foxes for a few years now here in Edinburgh & after putting out peanut butter sandwiches for the 1st time we had a new visitor………a big badger !! I have never seen one alive so I was thrilled by this. I just hope that they all get along & don’t fight over my sandwiches lol.
Cheers,
Elaine
Hi Elaine. Lucky you with a badger! I haven’t seen ours for weeks. I must get out the peanut butter… The badgers here seem to steer clear of the foxes (or the other way round). I don’t think they tend to fight… they have a healthy respect for one another I think. Jane
Just saw a fox eating somethin on your patch
I really enjoy your web cam of the wild creatures, Your such a very nice person for sharing it with us all, God Bless
Carole B. U.S.A
Hi Anonymous. Thanks for visiting and watching the foxes! Jane
Hi Carole B. Thanks for stopping by. Great that you can watch my Dorset garden all the way from the States! Jane
Wow!! just sitting here sleepily gazing at my p.c. with your ‘grass cuttings?’ and suddenly – there it was!! A FOX!! It just slowly strolled by in the view of the camera. Really took me by suprise!! (01:26 31st May)
Hi Jane……..me again. Guess what lol. A fox cub came into my garden a few nights ago with his dad. Not seen it since but what a wee sweetheart
Dad would not give it any of the peanut butter sandwiches though
Hi Sue. Glad you saw the fox… if you visit at about 10pm you should see much more than a “walk through”. Still, really glad you saw him (sorry it made you jump!). Jane
Elaine. You lucky thing! I still haven’t seen our foxcubs. Hopefully they will be venturing a bit further from their den in the next few weeks…. I will keep my eyes peeled. Hopefully we “should” see them on the foxcam. Jane
hi, just to say your cam stream is the best ive seen, i come friday & sat but cam was not on
maybe you was out.
anyway keep up the good work.
steve
Hi Steve. Sorry the camera is off at them moment. It should be back on on the 15th June. Glad you are enjoying it, and normal “streaming” should resume shortly! Jane
Sad news about my fox cub. On my camera it looked like a local cat attacked it one night & did it harm as I haven’t seem it since. There was a lot of baby fox fur in my garden & the noises that came from the camera were horrid to listen to. I HATE cats !
God Elaine that’s awful news. Really surprised that a cat would do that. Hopefully your cub is still around, but just lying low for a while. Fingers crossed. Jane
Just seen your site – we have just found and put a spotted flycatcher nest on Camstreams too, and wondered when your 6/7 chicks fledged? Also do they come back every year to the same box? They are quite unusual in this area but fantastic birds to watch.
They are wonderful birds. You are very lucky… my little fledglings were taken by magpies when only 5 days old. Very sad.
hi jane glad to see you back hope you are feeling a lot better i have missed the foxes
Hi Johnboy. Thanks for your comment. Yes, I feel loads better now. I will try turn the fox cam on more frequently over the next week. I’ve missed the foxes as well!
Hi Jane, I’m new to your site. I did get to see the fox, but was surprised at how different he looked. Perhaps it was the angle of the camera, but he looked bigger than I expected. His legs seemed longer and tail longer and less bushy. We are in Northern Ca. and in the forest, so we have foxes too. We also have raccoons, turkeys, deer and many more. I was surprised that you fed peanuts, not dogfood or some such. Thanks, it was fun! Kathi
Hi Kathi. Thanks for stopping by. Really glad you saw the fox. The camera is at “fox level”. We do seem to have one fox at the moment with incredibly long legs! the others aren’t so leggy. However, they are pretty big. About medium dog sized. Some of them have really bushy tails, others are a bit puny (you must have seen the puny one!). The foxes here eat practically anything, but they do love nuts and fruit (especially at this time of year) however they do eat meat as well (and will catch mice/birds) and munch there way through slugs and snails as well. They are very well adapted to an “urban” life. Jane
Hi, Jane,
Thanks for your reply. Our foxes are called Kit foxes and they are about the size of a large house cat. There are others, but in this area that is what we see the most. We see more raccoons than anything else. At night of course, and they will eat anything! Kathi
Hi Kathi. I had a look on Google for information on your kit foxes. They are gorgeous. Such big ears! Did you know that they are “endangered”? so you are very lucky to see them. As you say, our foxes are much, much bigger (and not at all endangered). The big dog foxes can be very handsome with really red coats in winter and great big bushy tails. A couple of years ago the female (vixen) had 5 cubs under our shed… it was great seeing the cubs playing on the lawn in the evening. Thanks so much for commenting on my blog. I hope you come back and see the UK foxes again. Jane
Kathi… have you watched the fox film on my blog post?:
http://urbanextension.wordpress.com/foxes-badgers-catching-up-with-the-garden-nightlife/
The film was taken from the same webcam camera. Enjoy! Jane
The foxes here eat practically anything, but was surprised at how different he looked
Hi John. Where abouts are you? I know that the American foxes are a lot smaller and look very different. Thanks for your comment. Jane
what type of camera are you using
thanks
jim
Hi Jim. It’s a varifocus CCTV camera with a 4mm-9mm zoom and 550TVL. Bought from http://www.eco-watch.com Plus I have a separate infra red light to illuminate the area. The night webcam is totally lit by the infra-red lamp (it’s actually pitch dark if you look out the window) so the foxes act quite naturally. I move it around the garden from time to time. Hope this helps. Jane
Hi,
I understand you have a stealth cam too- a GL80?
Is it good? I am thinking of getting one to use in my garden. Any good points or bad points? and what is the closest it will focus? Have you for instance captured mice on it?
No, I don’t have a stealth cam I’m afraid. Just an ordinary CCTV colour camera which I move about. Sorry I can’t be more help.
Greetings! Very useful advice within this post! It’s the little changes that make the largest changes. Thanks a lot for sharing!
Every weekend i used to visit this web site, as i wish for enjoyment, as
this this site conations in fact fastidious funny information too.
Greetings! Very useful advice within this article!
It’s the little changes that will make the largest changes. Many thanks for sharing!
It’s going to be end of mine day, however before end I am reading this wonderful paragraph to improve my knowledge.
Howdy! I could have sworn I’ve been to this website before but after reading through some of the post I realized it’s new to
me. Anyhow, I’m definitely delighted I found it and I’ll be bookmarking and checking back frequently!
It is appropriate time to make some plans for the future and it’s time to be happy. I’ve read this post and if
I could I want to suggest you few interesting things or tips.
Perhaps you could write next articles referring to
this article. I want to read even more things about it!
With havin so much written content do you ever run into any issues of
plagorism or copyright infringement? My site has a lot of
completely unique content I’ve either authored myself or outsourced but it appears a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my authorization. Do you know any solutions to help protect against content from being stolen? I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks for your comment. I must admit I’ve never worried about content showing up elsewhere. I’m happy for the information here to be used anywhere, on pretty much any website, if it increases people’s love of wildlife. If someone is sad enough to plagiarise any of it… well, let it be on their conscience!
That is a good tip especially to those fresh to the blogosphere.
Short but very precise info… Thank you for sharing this one.
A must read article!
Hi there would you mind letting me know
which web host you’re working with? I’ve loaded your blog in 3 different web browsers and I must say this blog loads a
lot quicker then most. Can you suggest a good web hosting provider at a fair price?
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Jonas – wordpress.com have their own webhosting – it’s just using the normal wordpress hosting that comes with the blog. Jane
Hello, yes this paragraph is genuinely pleasant and I have learned lot of things from it concerning blogging.
thanks.
