About Urban Extension and Me

“Urban Extension” is the Government’s new description for my village.

Corfe Mullen is an ancient Dorset village sitting five miles from the sprawling seaport of Poole, on the south coast of England.

Corfe Mullen Village

Unfortunately centralised local government thinks the village has become (or should become) an “extension” of Poole, and would like to see 700 new houses built on the green-belt countryside that surrounds us.

There are so many reasons why this shouldn’t happen, but the one that really makes me mad is the unnecessary destruction of important wildlife habitats.¬† Over the last 5 years I think we’ve persuaded them to build elsewhere, but you always have to be on your guard!

Blue Bell Wood

This diary hopes to introduce you to some of the flora and fauna in my neck of the woods. It doesn’t get updated very often nowadays (as Twitter has taken over) but you never know – I might get really inspired!

Please feel free to comment on ANY entries that you find interesting (or boring!).

I love to hear from EVERYONE who visits the site – requests welcome!

Me? I’m Jane, amateur naturalist, runner, video-photographer (especially of bees/wasps), badger vaccinator, and inhabitant of a fast disappearing country village. You can find me on Twitter @WildlifeStuff
