Urban Extension and Me

Why Urban Extension? It’s how the UK Government describes our parish of Corfe Mullen.

It’s actually an ancient Dorset settlement (dating back to Roman times) five miles from the seaport of Poole on the south coast of England, but to them we’re just an “extension” of Poole.

A few years back they wanted to give permission for 700 new houses to be built on the green-belt Waterloo Valley that surrounds the village. My Patch. Big mistake!

There were so many reasons why we couldn’t let this happen, but the one that really made me mad was the unnecessary destruction of important wildlife habitats.  Over the last 10 years we’ve persuaded them that it’s too precious to build on (at least for the next 20 years), but we’re still on our guard!

This blog is about My Patch and its wildlife and countryside.
